Kakar-led caretaker govt longest-serving in country’s history

PM Kakar completes 131 days as prime minister, which is a record

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker government of Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar has got the honour of being the longest caretaker government in the history of the country.

Kakar has completed 131 days as Prime Minister, a record. Earlier, the government of Mian Muhammad Soomro remained the longest caretaker government with 130 days.

According to official documents, Kakar took oath as the 8th caretaker prime minister on August 14, 2023 and on the same day the notification of his appointment was issued.

Justice Nasirul Mulk remained the caretaker prime minister for 79 days from June 1, 2018 to August 18, 2018. Justice Mir Hazar Khan Khoso remained the caretaker prime minister for 71 days, from March 25, 2013 to June 4, 2013.

Mehraj Khalid remained the caretaker prime minister for 104 days, from November 5, 1996 to February 16, 1997. Moin Qureshi became the prime minister for 92 days, from July 18, 1993 to October 18, 1993.

Balakh Sher Mazari’s tenure was the shortest. He remained the caretaker prime minister for 38 days, from April 18, 1993 to May 26, 1993.

While Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi remained the caretaker prime minister for 91 days, from August 6, 1990 to November 5, 1990.
