Promotion of Punjabi language linked to Sufi poets, cinema
LAHORE:Punjabi Language must be promoted in every aspect of expression, said the speakers in an International Punjabi Conference held in Punjab Institute of Language, Art & Culture (PILAC) here.
Speaking in a session on ‘Role of cinema in promoting Punjabi language’, Sohail Ahmad, actor and comedian said that people of Punjab whether they live in India, Pakistan or Canada or UK remain connected with their culture. Besides, he lauded the role of Sufi poets and cinema in promotion of Punjabi language.
On the occasion, Sohail Ahmad was given ‘Lok Sevak’ award. Iqbal Qaisar also praised the role of Punjabi films in promotion of Punjabi language. Tahir Sarwar Meer explained that Punjabi drama and movies had been playing the leading role. He said that Ranjeet Singh and Ganga Ram were sons of soil. Their pictures must have been displayed here, he added. Kashif Nisar laid emphasis on promotion of regional languages also.
Farewell
A farewell ceremony was arranged in the honour of outgoing General Manager (TSG) Engr Safdar Ali and General Manager (SO) NPCC Engr Sajjad Akhtar Khilji at the TSG Training Centre, NKLP Lahore. Engr Safdar Ali retired on December 21 and Engr Sajjad will retire on December 28.
