The chief minister said: “We have to improve our governance system keeping in view the principles and requirements of public service delivery so as to effectively resolve the issues being faced by the general public at their door steps.”

Syed Arshad Hussain Shah said the caretaker provincial government had already launched a drive against drugs, street crimes, adulteration, hoarding, artificial price hiking, traffic problems, encroachments, etc.

However, he said, the government would need the cooperation and guidance from the media in the operation against the menace of drugs as drug peddlers had emerged as the most dangerous enemy of our young generation, as they have infiltarted even educational institutions.

The chief minister said training programmes would be arranged for farmers as well as people through Agriculture and Livestock departments in order to have better production.

“We have provided public service delivery programmes to all ministries and departments, the benefits of which will reach the people very soon. Besides, the government has devised “Human Capital Export Strategy” which is aimed at providing employment opportunities to youths”, he added.

The chief minister said some 500,000 young people would be sent abroad next year for employment under the strategy.

These youths, he added, would be imparted professional and technical skills according to their capabilities, thereby enabling them to get better job opportunities abroad.

He said the government had formulated a strategy for education and health sectors with the purpose to make our health and education system compatible with the requirements of the modern era.

The chief minister said the media was indispensable for any democratic society.“It has always played an important role in strengthening democracy and highlighting public issues. The media is an effective means of communication between people and the government and that’s why it is considered as the fourth pillar of the state,” he added.

Syed Arshad Hussain Shah termed journalism a mission and said the work of journalists was very difficult as they performed professional duties round-the-clock and raised the voice for the truth putting their own lives at risk.

He was all praise for the professional role of the journalist community in KP during the war against terrorism and said that our journalists had undoubtedly performed professional duties in unfavorable conditions, which is unprecedented in the world.Syed Arshad Hussain Shah on this occasion, announced a special grant of Rs30 million for the Peshawar Press Club.
