KARAK: Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan of Jamaat-e-Islami has said that world donor agencies are dictating Pakistan’s financial system.

“The wealth of the rulers has swelled with the passage of time while the country has declined financially,” he said while addressing a public gathering on Sunday to inaugurate the political campaign for JI candidates of national and provincial assemblies.

The JI leader explained that the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) report revealed that the elite section of Pakistan received perks and privileges worth Rs17.4 billion annually from the government.

He alleged that successive rulers had mortgaged the country’s sovereignty with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank.

The senator criticised the Pakistani judiciary, military, civil bureaucracy, and businessmen, stating that 2.1 million cases were pending in Pakistani courts, while judges in the superior judiciary enjoy Rs 2 million salaries. He regretted that the poor segments of society were burdened with heavy taxes, while judges were exempted from taxes, calling it an injustice by the rulers.

He regretted that corrupt rulers increased the gas tariff by 193%, making the lives of poor people miserable. On the occasion, JI National Assembly candidate Maulana Mehboob Janan and Provincial Assembly candidate Fazal Qadir advocate also addressed the gathering.
