CM orders quality upgrade work

LAHORE: Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi conducted a visit to the under-construction emergency block at Mayo Hospital, approving the progress of the ongoing upgradation works.

The chief minister also toured the Maqbool Ahmed Block of King Edward Medical University, commending the facilities provided in the block. It is noteworthy that Dr Maqbool Ahmed, a King Edward Medical University graduate, spent Rs2 billion on construction of the Maqbool Ahmed Block. The chief minister lauded Maqbool Ahmed's efforts for this construction and expressed his intention to recommend Dr Maqbool Ahmed for a civil award.

During the visit, the chief minister assessed the various sectors within Maqbool Ahmed Block, praising the quality of construction. He also inspected the auditorium of Maqbool Ahmed Block, which houses various core departments of King Edward Medical University.

Turning his attention to the ongoing construction activities in the emergency block of Mayo Hospital, Mohsin Naqvi scrutinised the quality of the tiles. He directed the team to ensure quality work in the installation of central air conditioning. Identifying seams on the outer wall and reception walls, he instructed for a permanent solution to address these issues.

Emphasising the completion of ongoing upgradation activities promptly, the chief minister urged for round-the-clock efforts. The old emergency block is undergoing transformation into a state-of-the-art facility with approximately 210 beds, set to open in 45 days.

Inspecting medical equipment, beds, tables, wheelchairs, and benches distributed across Punjab, Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi ensured the quality of these resources. The Secretary Communication and Works and the Secretary of Health provided a briefing on the construction works related to the Emergency Block's upgradation.

Provincial Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Dr Javed Akram, Vice-Chancellor of King Edward Medical University, the Chief Executive Officer of Mayo Hospital, and relevant officials were also present during this visit.

Introduces Langar at Data Darbar

The chief minister has introducing the 24/7 Langar facility at the Data Darbar complex within 48 hours. The Auqaf Department has started this initiative, in partnership with a charity organisation, to feed a round-the-clock influx of devotees. This step marks a significant development, ensuring that devotees and the homeless have continuous access to free food. Auqaf secretary and Mian Rasheed of Madina Foundation briefed about the arrangements.

While chairing a meeting at his office, the chief minister emphasised the importance of maintaining cleanliness and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the area around Data Darbar. He reiterated the commitment to take steps to maximise facilities for the visitants.

The meeting was also briefed about the upgradation of nine shrines of Sufi saints including Hazrat Jalaluddin Bukhari in Uch Sharif, Baba Bullay Shah in Kasur, Hazrat Musa Pak in Multan and Shah Shams Tabriz.

The meeting noted that the expansion of verandas around the Data Darbar is poised to enhance the capacity from 3,000 to 5,000, ensuring a more accommodating and enriching experience for the multitude of visitors. The meeting was attended by Provincial Information Minister Amir Mir, DG WCLA, SMBR, secretary finance, secretary information, secretary P&D, commissioner Lahore, DIG (Ops), DG PITB and others.
