MANSEHRA: The district jail has launched Virtual Interview Facilitation (VIF) centres to provide an opportunity to the inmates, and their families living anywhere in the province to hold the viral meetings.
“This is a unique step taken by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prisons Department under its modernisation process to provide an opportunity to an inmate as well his family and kin settled anywhere in the province to hold virtual meetings,” Najam Abbasi the Superintendent of District Jail, told reporters on Monday.
He said initially it was a pilot project and extended to inmate’s families settled anywhere in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The superintendent said that four booths equipped with modern gadgets and high-speed interment service were established to connect inmates with families, or families from across the province to them here.
“This service would not only provide financial relief but also easy access to families of inmates to hold virus meetings with their loved ones at the jail from across the province,” Abbasi said.He said under the rules set by the Prison Department for VIF service, a family has to schedule the virtual meeting through the district and central jail of their respective destinations in KP.
“The entire process of such meetings would be recorded and monitored as security measures,” the superintendent of jail said.He said VIF services were being extended to as many as 486 male, female and juvenile prisoners of the Mansehra and Torghar districts.
“This initiative is part of KP Prisons Department’s reforms of rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates with their families to provide them a healthy living environment at facilities,” Abbasi said.
