Anti-smog measures: Next four days important, says CM

LAHORE: Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Bund Road Controlled Access Corridor project here Wednesday, inspected the route from Saggian up to Babu Sabu interchange and reviewed ongoing construction activities on the project. He directed to speed up construction activities on the project.

While talking with the media persons, the CM appealed to the masses to stay indoors during holiday.

‘Section 144 has been imposed under environmental and health emergency. We will not allow the people to come out of their houses unnecessarily. There will not be much restriction on the Iqbal Day but later anti-smog measures will be strictly implemented. The lesser number of traffic on the roads will provide ease in improving the environment. Next four days are highly important regarding smog. We are in contact with the trader community. The trader community should realise that traffic will be closed and people will not be on the roads as well,’ the CM added. The trader community will also make announcement regarding closing down markets. The steps being taken for the eradication of smog will definitely lessen the smog intensity. I have talked with the Governor State Bank regarding measures being taken for the smog eradication. In reply to a question, Mohsin Naqvi apprised that SL 4 is a federal government project and the Punjab government cannot play its role in it.

Thal Desert Rally

The chief minister approved starting 200km long 8th Thal Desert Rally from November 9 (today) to November 12 in the districts of Kot Addu and Layyah. The chief minister presided over a meeting at his office to review the arrangements for the Thal Desert Rally. Directing the officials, the chief minister emphasised the need for excellent arrangements for the event.

Revisits Model Town School

The chief minister visited the Government Junior Model School Model Town, after a hiatus of five days, to check the steps taken for the revamping of the school building, after his previous visit. New furniture has been provided to the students forced to sit on floor mats in their classrooms. The CM and provincial ministers, including Mansoor Qadir, Amir Mir and Azfar Ali Nasir reviewed the implementation of the instructions. The students complained about not being allowed to play in the school and the non-availability of a canteen. The CM instructed the principal not to stop the students from playing during recess. Wahab Riaz will come to play cricket with you and the canteen will also be opened in the school soon, he said.

Inspects Services upgradation work

The CM inspected the emergency upgradation project and Radiology department of Services Hospital. While witnessing heaps of garbage lying in the basement of Radiology department and parking area, he inquired from MS as whether did he ever visit the basement area, adding that had he ever visited the area then such a pathetic cleanliness situation would not have arisen.
