IHC stops action against official

ISLAMABAD: Justice Noorul Haq N. Qureshi of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday restrained the Pemra from proceeding with an inquiry against its Grade 18 officer for allegedly possessing a fake degree.
Kanwal Iftikhar is the daughter of former chairman Pemra Iftikhar Rasheed. The IHC bench, while issuing stay orders, served notices on the respondents — Pemra, acting chairman Pemra Pervez Rathore and Secretary Nasir Ayub — with directions to submit replies within one week.
Pemra held an inquiry to investigate the alleged fake degree of Kanwal Iftikhar while issuing show-cause notices to the officer. Legal counsel for Ms Iftikhar told the court that departmental proceedings against his client were mala fide, as the acting chairman could not hold an inquiry against a regular officer. The petitioner prayed that the departmental proceedings against his client be annulled.A news report published in The News by Ahmed Noorani had mentioned this particular case.
