IBA sacks teacher for harassing fellow teachers, violating code of conduct

The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi has dismissed Dr M. Mohsin Butt, professor of Marketing in the School of Business Studies, for harassing his fellow teachers, but Dr Butt has denied the allegations.

The teacher has accused the administration of harassment, saying that he was fired without being produced before an inquiry committee. The decision to terminate the services of Dr Mohsin Butt with effect from November 2, 2023, was taken by the Board of Governors of the IBA upon recommendations from its HR committee. It is said to be based on his repeated and insistent grave violations of the IBA’s Code of Conduct.

Dr Butt had been allegedly maligning fellow faculty members, using abusive, threatening and offensive language towards them and the IBA management, and directly or indirectly impacting the IBA’s image and reputation.

Such conduct is in direct violation of the IBA’s established policies and Code of Conduct. Dr Mohsin Butt was said to have been warned multiple times to change his behaviour and to take cognizance of the IBA’s Code of Conduct

According to Director HR Irfan Qamar Director, the decision to terminate Dr Butt’s employment is aimed at preserving the IBA’s values and policies. Dr Butt dismissed the allegations as false and said he was treated inappropriately. On Thursday, the security guard stopped him at the gate and gave him a letter of dismissal. He said there was no investigation against his nor was he called by any investigation committee.

He said that earlier in an old case he had been given a show-cause notice, and he had appealed to the chief minister, but this appeal had not been answered. Dr Butt said he used to raise his voice over harassment, abuses and injustices against people, and in this regard he had also written a letter to the chief minister of Sindh to take some action, but he had been expelled.
