Police on Thursday solved the mystery around the murder of a minor boy, whose tortured body was found wrapped in a blanket in the Port Qasim area a couple of weeks back, by arresting his own father.
The child, who remained unnamed for police until recently, has been identified as three-year-old Amaan, while his father and the alleged killer as Amir Ahmed. According to police, Ahmed killed his son and dumped the body in a dry nullah near Port Qasim Colony on October 17. The body was discovered on the following day by some residents and the Sukkun police station was informed.
As police were searching for clues leading to the identity of the deceased child, the suspect filed an application with the Saudabad police on October 23, stating that he along with his wife and son went to Liaquat Market for shopping, where the boy went missing. Police said that they questioned Ahmed about the child going missing, to which he gave inconsistent answers, raising their suspicion on him. He was subsequently grilled, and during further interrogation he confessed to killing his son and dumping his body, they added.
Saudabad police investigation incharge Ramzan said: “It was a shocking revelation that the killer of the innocent child, who was brutally murdered, has turned out to be his father.” The probe found out that the man had entrusted his friend to raise the child, after he was born. However, he was allegedly annoyed that his son did not call him father. On the day of the unfortunate incident, the child was brought home to meet his family. He did recognize his mother, but not Ahmed as his father, police said, adding that this angered the suspect.
Police added that the couple had been quarrelling for long, which could also have infuriated the suspect. A murder case has been registered against Ahmed on the complaint of his wife.
