First Lady Begum Mamnoon Hussain Thursday said Islam is a religion that revolutionized women’s empowerment, and there is no notion of superiority among men or women in Islam.
The first lady said this while addressing a function in connection with World Women’s Day at the President House; the event was organised by Pakistan Red Crescent Women Forum.
She lauded the services of women in different fields and assured her full support to Red Crescent Women Forum in activities aimed at women’s empowerment.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Saeed said this year, the theme of International Women’s Day is ‘Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality,’ which talks about gender equality, women’s empowerment and women’s human rights.
He said the PRC Women's Forum will address the specific experiences of Pakistani women and girls in times of disaster (whether natural or human induced), such as distinct healthcare needs in emergencies, or vulnerabilities due to early warnings that do not reach women while they are at home.
Renowned mountaineer Samina Baig, CEO Roots School Anna Faisal and artiste Laila Zuberi also spoke on the occasion.
Later, the first lady distributed shields among the participants.
The ceremony was attended by spouses of ambassadors, senators, representatives of international and national NGOs, students and female volunteers of the PRC.
