Safe campuses

The scandal at Islamia University Bahawalpur, where university staff were found with drugs and inappropriate images and videos of students, will make parents more worried about sending their daughters to university. This is quite troubling as many women and girls have a hard time accessing education already and this incident is only making things worse.

In recent years, female students in different universities have raised their voices against sexual harassment and exploitation on campuses. The conservative and exploitative power structures in the country are under threat and such scandals will indirectly empower these structures. Instead of not sending women to universities we should talk about creating a healthy and safe environment for all.
