Private sector helping govt promote education: minister
LAHORE
Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has said educational institutes in private sector are playing an important role in providing quality education to the youths, particularly girls, encouraging them with cash prizes and medals as well as extending their full cooperation to the Punjab government to promote education in the province.
He stated this while addressing the participants of prize distribution ceremony of position-holders of Punjab Group of Colleges on Thursday. Group Principal Agha Tahir Ejaz, Principal Hamid Masood, Chairperson Literary Society Prof. Haleema Saadia, Prof Deeba Altaf, faculty members, teachers, students and their parents attended the ceremony.
Raja gave away key of a car to Bisma Naeem as an award who got top position in the BCom throughout the province.
Rimsha Zia was awarded a gold medal and cash prize of Rs. 100,000 for achieving the first position in FSc exam.
Other position-holders achieving gold medals and cash prizes included Mahrukh Gul, Aneeqa Imtiaz, Ayesha Khuram, Sakeena Yawar Ali, Anum Ashfaq, Namal Nasir and Hira Salahuddin.
Minister Labour Raja Ashfaq congratulated all the position-holders along with their parents and teachers on this achievement.
He expressed the hope that these students will continue their journey of success in their educational career and render best services for humanity and country in their near future. The minister said Pakistan will become a hub of economic, industrial and trade activities due to China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects and youth, particularly girls, should get best out of this opportunity in medical, engineering, IT and related departments.
UHS: The Punjab government has granted affiliation of Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical and Dental College Lahore, Federal Post-Graduate Medical Institute (FPGMI) Lahore and Allied Institute of Shaikh Zayed Medical Complex (AZMC) Lahore with University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
According to a handout issued on Thursday, a notification has been issued in this regard by the office of the Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department Punjab.
PU bans AC use: The Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor has banned the use of air conditioners in classrooms and administrative offices till further orders.
A notification has been issued in this regard. According to the notification issued on March 30, instructions are for Punjab University Gujranwala Campus as well as office of PU Jhelum Campus.
A PU official said Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran recently visited different classrooms and offices on New Campus and expressed annoyance when he noted that the teachers had started using the air conditioners despite slightly better season.
He added the varsity had been paying a huge amount of money against electricity utility adding the move would help curtail such expenses.
The official said it was likely that the ban would be lifted as soon the weather completely changed.
