From Our Correspondent
OKARA: The Anjuman-e-Mazareen Punjab (AMP) on Tuesday took out a rally against the alleged police highhandedness.
Tenants of Military Farms Okara (MFO) led by AMP general secretary Mehr Abdus Sattar took out a rally to register their protest. They also staged a sit-in on GT Road near Chak 3/4-L.
Addressing the protesters, Mehr Abdus Sattar demanded the government release 11 AMP members, including Shabbir Sajid of Byle Ganj, Nadeem Ashraf of Renala Estate, Saleem Jhakhar and Hafiz Jabir of Kulyana Estate, who had been illegally detained in the jail in alleged forged cases. He accused the jail superintendent of committing atrocities on the arrested AMP members.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Tahir Amin and others reached the spot and held talks with the protesters. They invited the AMP leaders to the DCO Office today for further talks on their demands. Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
