Former Germany captain Blunck offers help to PHF
KARACHI: Germany’s former hockey captain Christian Blunck reached Pakistan on Tuesday and called on PHF secretary Shahbaz Ahmed and other officials and players.
He said he wanted to see Pakistan in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Pakistan have failed to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics — the first time in the Games history.
Blunck is friends with many Pakistani players whom he played against during his international career, Shahbaz, Tahir Zaman, Naveed Alam, Khwaja Junaid.
Sources in the PHF said that Blunck was on a personal visit and wanted to meet those Olympians against whom he played and who are now running the affairs of Pakistan hockey.
Blunck expressed his best wishes for Pakistan and the revival of hockey in the country.
The former German captain had a busy day in Lahore, meeting Shahbaz, participating in the coaching courses for officials and witnessing matches of junior championship.
He also mingled with the junior players.
Sources said Blunck had offered his services to PHF and hoped that Pakistan would bounce back in international hockey.
Blunck said that Pakistan was one of the most important hockey-playing nations and that he desired to see the Green-shirts at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The former hockey great, also called “Budi Blunck” in the world hockey, will meet the PHF president Khalid Khokhar during.
