Quaid-i-Azam University tops ITU ranking

The Scientometrics Lab (SLAB) of the Information Technology University (ITU) on Friday launched its first Quality Research Rankings of more than 200 universities and research institutions of Pakistan.
According to ITU-QRR rankings, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad topped the overall ranking list issued by SLAB.
The QAU is followed by COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, National University of Sciences and Technology, University of the Punjab Lahore, Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), University of the Karachi, University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore, and Government College University, Lahore.
ITU Vice Chancellor Dr Umar Saif while commenting on the launch said ITU Quality Research Rankings (ITU-QRR) was distinctive because it only aggregated work published in top research journals and conferences. “It uses international criteria to rank Pakistani institutions in terms of real quality and impact”, he added.
The ITU-QRR also issued rankings of specialized institutions of Pakistan.
In specialized category, Aga Khan University topped followed by Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Lahore University of Management Sciences, National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Pakistan, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, NED University of Engineering and Technology Pakistan, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, University of Engineering and Technology Taxila, NWFP Agricultural University, and University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi
Head of ITU's Scientometrics Lab Dr. Saeed Ul Hassan said the ITU Quality Research Ranking was a first step that would go a long way to start a culture of quality research in Pakistan.
“It is based on international quality research publications in Pakistani institutions”, he said and hoped that it would be helpful in promotion of research culture in Pakistan.

PU championship: The inaugural ceremony of Punjab University’s first All Pakistan Parliamentary Debating Championship 2016 being organised by the varsity’s Directorate of Students Affairs was held on Friday.
The ceremony was held at PU Institute of Education and Research’s Waheed Shaheed Hall which was attended by PU Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, Director Students Affairs Shahid Mehmood Gul, Deputy Director Zubair Akram, Chairman Hall Council Dr Abid Hussain Chaudhry and a large number of students.
Dr Mujahid Kamran said Pakistani youth was full of talent, adding this would be a good platform for the students to show their abilities. Almost 50 teams from all over Pakistan are participating in the event. The final round will be held on March 7, 2016.
Promoted: PASSCO Managing Director Capt. (Retd) Tariq Masood has been promoted to BS-22.
In this regard the Services & General Administration Department has issued a notification on Friday.
