Judiciary can’t correct govt system: CJP
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday summoned the secretary, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), on Thursday over the appointment of the vice chancellor of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Peshawar (SBBUP).
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard the case filed against the appointment of SBBUP vice chancellor.
The court sought record of candidates for vice chancellor and also the list of teaching staff working in HEC on deputation.
The CJP remarked that the court would take stern action against the HEC secretary for misleading the court. “If a man is appointed the judge and he becomes dishonest, we cannot declare it a system error,” he said and remarked that the judiciary had no authority to correct the government system as it only followed the Constitution.
Justice Khilji Arif Hussain remarked that these matters should be raised before elected public representatives.
Justice Amir Hani Muslim expressed annoyance over a section officer of the HEC for submitting wrong curriculum vitae (CV) and remarked that there was no utilization of a teaching department official in the HEC.
He asked for repatriation of the section officer to the parent department, otherwise he could be sent to jail. The hearing was adjourned till Thursday (today).
