Evacuee Trust Property Board Chairman Siddiq-ul-Farooq has said that child mortality in Tharparkar is being caused by conditions such as premature birth, low weight, pneumonia, diarrhoea, cardiac ailments and other medical conditions, and not due to malnutrition.
The statement is an attempt to cover the incompetence and ineptitude of Qaim Ali Shah’s administration. Perhaps, the chairman is not aware of the situation in Thar. Maternal malnutrition is the primary contributing factor to low birth weight, diarrhoea and pneumonia in the neonatal period.
