Chiniot steel
By our correspondents
February 29, 2016
Back in 2012, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had announced the discovery of a huge iron ore reserve in Chiniot. He proudly declared he would build a steel mill at the site. He also promised to build a road between Chiniot and Faisalabad as a gift to the area, and ordered the bureaucracy to implement the project as early as possible. Some officers of the mineral department also reportedly replaced because they could not keep pace with the dynamic leadership of the chief minister.
Four years have passed since the elusive discovery of iron ore but the progress to install a steel mill in Punjab has yet to see the light. Will ‘well-informed’ persons throw some light on this issue?
