A royal expert has reflected on Princess Eugenie and Beatrice’s decision not to attend their cousin Peter Phillips wedding on June 6 after they were invited.

Eugenie and Beatrice, the daughters of the disgraced Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, were believed to have originally been invited to Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling’s wedding.

Earlier, it was reported the royal sisters were going to attend the family occasion along with other members of the Royal Family.

However, over the last few days, it has been claimed that Eugenie and Beatrice will not be at the event.

They have reportedly changed their minds after Thames Valley Police confirmed that their investigation into Andrew, which started after he was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in February, will include all different types of misconduct, including alleged sexual misconduct.

Commenting on the York sisters decision, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told the Daily Express: "Anything involving the Yorks will dominate the headlines. It is therefore no surprise that the sisters reportedly will not be attending Peter Phillips wedding to Harriet Sperling.”

He continued, "It will be an event of significance as Peter Phillips is Princess Anne's son. Images of them (Beatrice and Eugenie) would overshadow it. This may be unfair, but it represents the reality which simply cannot be ignored.”

The expert went on saying, "This is also more sensible for Beatrice and Eugenie, who have to walk a tightrope when in public which no one would envy!"
