KARACHI: The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) – part of China’s initiative One Belt One Road – offers numerous opportunities for the country’s economic progress and prosperity.

Moazzam Husain, the writer of bestseller ‘Putting Pakistan Right’ said the CPEC was rather a modified form of Pakistan Vision 2025, which the PML-N government had prepared even before CPEC.

“Most of the projects covered under CPEC, including the Gwadar Port had been envisaged in the Vision 2025,” Husain added.

Speaking at a book-reading event, organised by Regus Pakistan, Moazzam Husain said that with the Silk Road initiative, China aimed at building a global infrastructure network, while regional connectivity and economic integration was the most important pillar of Vision 2025.

He said at a time when war on terror and energy shortages were plaguing the country, the transit corridors provided economic opportunities, particularly in supply chain and logistics sector.

Underlining the importance of Gwadar Port, Moazzam said being a deepwater port, break bulk operations would be the specialty of Gwadar. Moreover, it could compliment Afghan Transit Trade and serves as an export base for the export of minerals in Balochistan. Putting Pakistan Right underlines factors that lie at the heart of\c Pakistan’s dysfunction and explains the way forward to set things in order.
