13 get PhD, 53 MPhil degrees

LAHORE

The 22nd convocation of University of Engineering & Technology was held here on Monday in which 13 PhDs, 53 MPhil, 187 MSc, 44 MBA and 1,380 bachelors degrees were awarded among the graduating students.  

Excellent performance medals were awarded to 58 students while the first ever Iranian student Ms Sharia Hussaini was also awarded PhD in Architecture. 

Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Chairman Engineer Javed Salim Qureshi was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, he said that engineering education played a key role in the progress of a country. He added that keeping this view the government was taking various measures with the collaboration of other institutions to equip the youth with different technical skills.

Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairperson Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin, UET faculty, students and parents attended the convocation. Javed Salim Qureshi further said in order to be in the ranking of developed countries it was essential to modernise the engineering education and other pedagogical techniques. 

UET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Fazal A. Khalid said UET graduates had proved their mettle nationally and internationally. He added it was hoped that new engineers would not only follow the footprints of their seniors but would also establish a modern society. He briefed the participants with significant statistics about the performance of UET in research, training, construction, expansion, development of curriculum, and different MoUs with various organisations for the betterment and progressive activities of the university. He said that UET was developing concrete liaison between academia and industry resulting constructive change in the nation building and help in reducing the ratio of unemployment. 

Ms Ayesha Liaqat from Chemical and Hafiz Ahmad Waqas from Civil engineering got six gold medals each for different distinctions.
