778 students graduate in Bahria University’s 12th convocation

The Bahria University Karachi held its 12th Convocation on Sunday at the university campus where Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, who was the chief guest at the ceremony, awarded degrees to students of PhD, postgraduate and undergraduates programme.

In total, 778 degrees were awarded to the undergraduate and graduate students of the departments of Management Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences, Computer Sciences, Earth & Environmental Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering and Professional Psychology.

Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah along with the rector of Bahria University, Vice Admiral (R) Tanveer Faiz, awarded 17 gold medals to Nawal Naeem, Hina Farheen, Naila Shabbir, Faleha Farooqi, Sadaf Riaz and Shaheera Haroon from Management Sciences Department; Sana Yasir from Social Sciences Department; Ayesha Waris and Shahzad Usmani from Electrical Engineering Department; Syed Azeem Akhter, Shoaib Malik and Muhammad Usman from Computer Sciences Department; Conrad Walter D’Silva and Ambreen Yousuf Ali from Software Engineering Department; Anam Fatima Sheriff, Syeda Affifah Saud and Syeda Anam Fatimah from Psychology Department.

Moreover, 11 silver medals were also awarded to various students who achieved top positions in their respective programmes.

Addressing on the occasion, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah congratulated the graduating students on their success and lauded the university authorities for imparting knowledge skills to the graduated students in their respective disciplines, saying that it would enable them to lead a professionally rewarding life.

He said the role of universities and institutions had gained significant importance to help impart the requisite education and fostering competencies to make them better and productive citizen of Pakistan.

“Today, universities need to expand strategic networking with multinational corporations, public and private sectors, and research based institutions. The underlying theme of the collaborative relationship is to understand each others’ needs and equipping the students with contemporary business models to help make them effective at their workplace; both locally and internationally.”

He said that new endeavours undertaken by the management of the Bahria University with commitment and determination would yield the best results for all the stakeholders and would provide competitive edge to the university.

Earlier in his welcome address, Vice Admiral (R) Tanveer Faiz expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, for his presence in the convocation.

In order to remain in sync with market demands, he noted, the Bahria University was continuously reviewing curricula of its ongoing programmes along with taking new initiatives such as start of MS in Project Management, Supply Chain Management, MBA in Islamic Finance, Bachelors in Information Technology and various other disciplines.

He added that universities had great responsibility of producing quality graduates who could contribute positively to enhance the research culture in the country, and acknowledged the role of the Higher Education Commission in promotion of higher education, both in public and private sectors.

The ceremony was attended by a number of senior naval officers, industrialists, businessmen and parents of the graduating students.
