Work on establishing a Food Street at Saddar is underway and it is likely to be opened in first week of June, said Rawalpindi Cantonment Board Chief Executive Officer Fahim Zafar Khan.
While talking to ‘The News’ here on Monday he said that the Food Street is being established from Kashmir Road to Bank Road and the road has been refurbished with the tuff tiles.
He said after opening of the Food Street people would not be allowed to park their vehicles from Kashmir Road to Bank Road. To visit the Food Street, the people would have to park their vehicles in parking area established recently by RCB. People would also enjoy the performances by artistes while visiting the Food Street.
The CEO said prior to this he had taken measures for renovation and beautification of Saddar. The traders were taken into confidence for removal of billboards and they supported the civic body in its attempt. Now the people could not witness any billboard in Saddar. As a result of our measures related to removal of billboards, the condition of Saddar has improved drastically in terms of beautification. Special focus was also given on greenery and flowers.
Moreover, the old Tonga Stand has been demolished and in its place shops are being constructed to make the area a flower market at Kamran Chowk.
Similarly, the RCB has also revamped the Roomi Park by placing swings, setting up walking track and food courts.
Apart from this, he said measures were also taken for ending corruption in the civic body. In this regard, action were taken against number of staff members of all grades after holding enquiry against them. The staff involved in corrupt practices were suspended and removed from their services.
For redressing the civic problems of the citizens at the earliest possible time, a facilitation room has been established where special staff both male and female members are deputed. The citizens lodge their complaints in the facilitation room which are redressed in couple of days, he claimed.
