Torghar district nazim, two councillors arrested
Law and order issue
MANSEHRA: The district nazim of Torghar and two councillors were arrested on the charges of creating law and order situation in the wake of the issue of no-confidence motion.
Some councillors of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Awami National Party (ANP) have joined hands to de-seat District Nazim Noor Mohammad. The District Council Torghar, which was supposed to take up the no-confidence motion for voting on Monday, will hold voting on July 4.
Despite the arrest of District Nazim Noor Mohammad and two councillors, Amrullah of PTI and Qari Hassan of ANP, the district council met on Monday. The council elected Hussain Ahmad as convener and Shamzad as district naib nazim.
It was learnt that 14 councillors belonging to the PTI-ANP alliance and two from treasury attended the meeting.Meanwhile, District Nazim Noor Mohammad and councillor Amrullah were arrested after they lodged cases against each other in Judbah Police Station.
Amrullah alleged that Noor Mohammad had attempted to kidnap him, but the latter denied the allegation and said that Amrullah attacked him in a bid to kill him.Deputy Commissioner Torghar Mutloobur Rehman also ordered the arrest of another councillor Qari Hassan under Section-16 of MPO to avert any untoward incident.
The leadership of PTI and ANP had directed their councillors not to become part of the efforts to de-seat the district nazim, but contrary to that councillors breached party line and elected a convener to hold further proceeding on the issue of the no-confidence motion.
“We are moving court to secure bail for the arrested councillors. The district administration arrested them in an attempt to foil our no-confidence motion against district nazim, but we would not allow anybody to disturb peaceful environment of our district,” Dilroz Khan, the leader of PTI-ANP alliance, told reporters.
He said that district administration had arrested ANP councillor Qari Hassan in an attempt to keep him away from the no-confidence proceedings.“We are committed to dislodging the district nazim through legal proceedings,” said Dilroz Khan.
