NANKANA SAHIB: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif paid a surprise visit to the DHQ Hospital here on Sunday.

He checked male, female and emergency wards. He suspended DCO Dr Usman Ali Khan, Health EDO Dr Muhammad Aslam Randhawa and Medical Superintendent Dr Ghulam Yasin for poor performance and unavailability of medicines in the hospital.

Later, talking to newsmen, the chief minister said that negligence regarding availability of health facilities to the masses would not be tolerated. He said that Rs 2 billion funds were given for installing air-conditioners in hospitals of the Punjab, including Nankana, in 2010/11. He said that he found patients and their attendants in miserable condition and without proper facilities in the hospital. Not even a single air conditioner was functioning in the hospital, he added.

The chief minister said that patients had complained him about unavailability of medicines in the hospital. He said: “I am answerable to the Allah Almighty so I will not leave those officers who spoiled the public money.” He said that the DCO and the EDO were posted in the district two years ago but they did not pay any heed to pathetic condition of the patients. He said that there was a need of specialist doctors in the hospital.

Earlier, the chief minister’s helicopter landed at the hockey stadium. It was being expected that he would visit Ramazan bazaar, but he visited the hospital as it was near the stadium.

Meanwhile, the district administration made extra arrangements at the Ramazan bazaar but the CM did not visit it and the staffers appointed there took a sigh of relief.
