Slain soldier laid to rest in Malakand

BATKHELA: A soldier, who was killed in a clash with the militants in the Buner district a day earlier, was laid to rest in his native village here on Monday. Subedar Rahim Wahid was laid to rest in a graveyard in Maikh Band village in Batkhela. People from various walks of life, including Member Provincial Assembly Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, Brigadier Mazhar Khan of the Pakistan Army, Colonel Ayub, Assistant Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmad Khan and locals attended the funeral prayers. A contingent of soldiers presented guard of honours to the martyred soldier. Rahim Wahid was killed in a clash with the militants in an operation in Elam mountains in the Buner district. He is survived by a widow, three sons and a daughter.
KP cops awarded for bravery

PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nasir Khan Durrani on Monday awarded cops of Mardan police for foiling a suicide attack and killing a suicide bomber a week ago.The awards and commending certificates were distributed at a ceremony held here.IGP Nasir Khan lauded the performance of the cops, saying the Mardan police have exhibited extra-ordinary courage and successfully foiled several militant attacks over the past few months. The awards and certificates were distributed among the cops who had shot dead a militant on May 30 in Mardan city. Around 14 persons, including a girls child had been injured after an explosion caused by a suicide vest.The law enforcers had also recovered and defused an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing up to eight kilogram and strip to a bicycle.
Dispenser shot dead in Swat

MINGORA: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a dispenser at a private clinic in the Qambar area here on Monday, the police sources said. They said that a dispenser identified as Farooq was presentat his medicine shop when unidentified gunmen fired at him, killing him on the spot. The accused managed to flee the scene. Motive behind the incident could not be ascertained. Following the incident, the security forces reached the spot and launched a search operation in the area. A case was registered and investigation launched.
195 suspects arrested in DI Khan search

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The police have arrested 195 suspected persons, including 70 proclaimed offenders, during search and strike operations in parts of the district, officials said.They said the arrests had been made in the month of May. They said the police conducted 48 search and strike operations in parts of the district and made the arrests.They said the police also recovered four Kalashnikovs as many Kalakovs, 30 rifles, 31 guns, 26 pistols, hundreds of cartridges, 42 kilogrammes of hashish and 94 bottles of liquor from them.
Two gunned down in FR Bannu

BANNU: Gunmen shot dead two persons during prayers inside a mosque in the Bakkakhel area of Frontier Region (FR), Bannu, official sources said on Monday. The sources said that armed men opened fire on Muhammadullah and Bakht Noor during the Isha prayers in Bakkahel, leaving them critically injured. They were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu. However, they succumbed to their injuries. Meanwhile, a shop in Hawed was damaged in an explosion early on Monday, local sources said.
