The News Education Expo attracts thousands on first day

LAHORE

The biggest education event of the country by Jang Media Group—The News Education Expo’16 started at the Faletti’s Hotel here on Monday and attracted thousands of students on the first day. The two-day education expo was inaugurated by Punjab Governor/Chancellor Muhammad Rafique Rajwana. Managing Director of the Jang Media Group Sarmad Ali, representatives of various participating universities and institutes were present on the occasion. The governor visited the stalls and appreciated the efforts of Jang Media Group in organising the education expo. 

The first day witnessed an influx of a large number of visitors, particularly students, right from the morning and this trend continued till the evening. The representatives of participating universities, institutes and consultancy firms provided on the spot free-of-cost information to the visitors under one roof. 

“The News Education Expo is really a good idea. This not only saves prospective students from unnecessary hassle of visiting each institute for admission related information but also saves time and money”, commented a student Saman Zahra. According to her, she had a wonderful opportunity to explore academic programmes, fee structures and scholarship opportunities offered by the participating institutes.

On the sideline of the expo, a highly informative session by acclaimed educationist and career counsellor Syed Abidi was also held.

Many visiting students and parents of the students especially attended this interactive session to know emerging study areas, foreign qualifications and local and foreign scholarship opportunities. Through a presentation, Syed Abidi also informed the participants about emerging study areas in the wake of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which he said would prove to be a game-changer. 

Rear Admiral (r) Shahid Saeed HI (M), Registrar of Bahria University—a project of Pakistan Navy—especially visited his university stall and appreciated the arrangements. 

Talking to The News, Rear Admiral (r) Shahid Saeed said Bahria University, a federally chartered university, was founded in the year 2000 and made rapid progress over the years introducing demand driven degree programmes. 

“Since the key role of a university is to create new knowledge, Bahria University is now focusing on research in order to play a role in solving the real world problems”, he said and added “We are also developing academia-industry linkages.” He further said character building of the students and making them well-rounded and responsible individuals would remain priority of the Bahria University. Chairperson for Societies’ Board at Punjab Group of Colleges Prof Haleema Sadia appreciating Jang Media Group’s efforts in organising a successful education expo said its timing was perfect since after exams students were really looking for information for higher studies. 

About the Punjab Group of Colleges, Prof Haleema said her institute had become a premier seat of learning offering academic programmes in wide ranging subjects and offering scholarships to talents and exceptional students. “We offer special seats to students in three different categories i.e. based on academic performance of students, while we also offer talent based and sports based scholarships to students”, she said. These scholarships provide 30 percent up to 100 percent fee waiver to the students, she added. 

Ch Muhammad Saleem (advocate), Chairman Quaid-e-Azam Group of Colleges and NCBA&E (West Canal Campus) said The News Education Expo was an excellent initiative by the Jang Media Group and a great service in the education field providing guidelines to the prospective students. A well-known name in the legal education, Ch Muhammad Saleem said his group was also offering high quality education programmes in various other disciplines.

University of Gujrat’s Director Student Affairs Muhammad Yaqoob said his varsity had been participating in The News Education Expo since Jang Media Group started holding this event. He said the expo helped the participating institutes branding themselves and interact with each other and helped to know the trends. He said the University of Gujrat had developed linkages with industry and was offering innovative programmes.
