Educated Fata

By our correspondents
May 20, 2016

It seems education in Fata fairs far below in the scheme of things of those who matter in the country. The majority of children in the tribal belt go to madressahs because of extremely poor quality of education. Not a single university has been established in the tribal belt since Independence.

The government has reportedly been receiving billion of rupees in funds and assistance from donors; this money is supposed to be spent on education in Fata, but due to lack of accountability, the funds seem to disappear. The government should know that the military option to restore peace in the region is a short-term strategy. If it wants to defeat terrorism completely, then it has to eradicate extremist ideology from the minds of the people by improving the literacy rate in Fata.
