Two held for misbehaving with judge

A young man and his friends on Friday misbehaved with a judge of the Lahore High Court after court dismissed a habeas corpus petition for recovery of his wife and also pointed a pistol on lawyers of opponent party outside the courtroom. 

Police and security personnel of the court arrested Bilal Bashir and one of his friends Awais and handed over them to police.

Justice Chaudhry Mushtaq Ahmad heard the petition filed by Bashir of the Kahna area for recovery of his wife from the custody of her parents. However, the judge dismissed the petition when the girl wished to go with her parents instead of husband.

At this, the man and his friends got furious and started shouting at the judge. They also threatened the judge of dire consequences before the security personnel expelled them from the court. 

Later, the man and his friends started hurling abuses at the lawyers outside the court and pulled a gun and a dagger on them. The advocates overcame Bashir and his accomplices and gave them a sound thrashing.

The armed accomplices of Bilal Bashir fled the scene before police and security personnel reached there. However, police arrested Bashir and his friend Awais. 

Lawyers expressed serious concern over security arrangements on the high court premises. They questioned as to how the young men managed to smuggle a gun and dagger into the court despite strict security arrangements at all entrance points of the court.

remanded: An anti-corruption court on Friday granted three-day physical remand of Naveed Ikram, a grade-20 officer of Audit and Accounts Department, an accused of embezzlement of Rs240 millions.

Meanwhile, the same court has granted one day physical remand of two other accused in the same case, including Deputy Secretary Energy Department Shakeel and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Punjab Power Development Company Limited Farrukh Shah. 

Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), Punjab produced all accused before the court to obtain their physical remand to carry out investigation which was granted respectively.

ACE had registered a case against Naveed, Shakeel and Farrukh a few days back on the charge of alleged misappropriation and drawing around Rs240 million from the public exchequer in the name of work.
