Doctor, nurse brawl causes death of 2 at THQ Hospital

BUREWALA: A brawl between a doctor and a staff nurse allegedly caused death of a minor in Gynecology Ward and a woman at emergency ward at the THQ Hospital here on Monday.

Dr Khalid Maqsood, a duty doctor, and staff nurse Nadia Parveen, allegedly scuffled over the admission of a female patient Ayesha of Amjad Town as Nadia allegedly did not admit her after the doctor’s admission request. The nurse alleged that Dr Khalid Maqsood slapped her thrice over the issue after exchanging hot words with her. After the alleged incident, the nurses of the hospital stopped working, which resulted in the death of a minor at the Gynecology Ward. In the meantime, Ayesha Bibi who was sent for admission to the female ward was shifted to a private hospital by her relatives while another patent Mrs Mumtaz of Satellite Town was brought to the emergency but she also could not survived. Later, THQ Hospital Medical Superintendent Rana Muhammad Akram formed a five-member committee, headed by Dr Khalid Mahmood (APM) while the other members are Dr Muhammad Imran Bhatti (DMS), Dr Khalid Mahmood (ENT Surgeon), Dr Memona Humayun (Pediatrician) and Head Nurse Mrs Hafeez. The inquiry committee recorded the statements of Dr Khalid Maqsood and staff nurse Nadia Parveen and started investigation. Meanwhile, THQ Hospital MS Rana Akram said that the inquiry committee would complete the investigation within two days to determine the responsible persons.

SHORTAGE OF GUNNY BAGS: The shortage of gunny bags has forced the farmers to sell their wheat at low price here, The News has learnt.

The Punjab government had decided to provide 10 gunny bags per acre to the farmers but the farmers were given only three gunny bags per acre. The Passco has allegedly reduced the wheat procurement target to 400,000 gunny bags in Burewala sub-division as the farmers produced more wheat and they were forced to sell their crop at low rate of Rs 1,100 per 40kg. Pakistan Kisan Ittehad district president Zulfiqar Awan, general secretary Ch Mehran and Mehboob Minhas demanded the government increase purchase target of the Passco.
