Parallel power
This refers to the editorial, ‘Parallel power’ (March 10). The editorial has touched a burning issue – the friction between the Sindh government and the Rangers. It is no more a secret that the Rangers and the Sindh government are not on the same page since the raid on the KBCA. The demand of separate police stations by the Rangers should be seen in that context. There is an element of mistrust between the paramilitary force and the provincial government. Undoubtedly, the Rangers have done extremely well in bringing peace in Karachi, but let us not ignore the sacrifices by the police. It is not a question of setting up police stations by the Rangers but what is more important is to understand why this demand has been made. Tomorrow some other demand may spring up and that is not the solution.
What is more important is building deep understanding, close coordination and cooperation between the two sides. Be it centre or provinces, political interference will always be there. One must learn to live with it. It is very unfortunate that in most of the cases our apex court has to intervene in those issues that are the exclusive domain of the executive. The best solution is to resolve all issues that are a source of conflict between the government and the Rangers.
