The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has asked students to check before admission if the postgraduate programme they want to intend to take at any medical or dental college is recognised by it.

It said it had already directed all degree-awarding medical and dental educational institutions not to advertise any unrecognised programme.

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council said it didn’t register postgraduate qualifications, which were not recognised under Section 16 of the PMDC Ordinance 1962 and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council Amendment Act 2012.

That section of the law states, “the federal government may grant recognition to any post-graduate medical or dental institution in or outside Pakistan, which train or grant or both train and grant additional medical or dental qualifications.”

Pakistan Medical and Dental Council President Professor Shabir Lehri said the candidates for postgraduate qualifications should ensure that the postgraduate course they enrolled in was recognised by the council.

Professor Shabir Lehri  said admitting or advertising any unrecognised postgraduate course was a clear violation of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council law.

Professor Lehri asked students to check the list of degree-awarding educational institutions approved by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council before getting admissions.
