KARACHI: Following the mourning call given by the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) on Tuesday night, the educational institutions and business centers are shut across the city while transport is also off the roads, Geo News reported Wednesday.

It may be mentioned that the death toll from a blast which took place near the camp office of the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) near People’s Chowrangi in North Nazimabad on Tuesday has risen to four. The MQM is observing a day of mourning across Sindh following the blast.

After the MQM announced to observe the day of mourning, the transport administration and traders unions appealed to keep the activities shut.

The city is giving a deserted look as most of the educational institutions and business centers are closed while thin transport can be observed on the roads, causing immense difficulties for the commuters.

The fueling stations were also closed down last night following the call.

On the other hand, FIR of the blast has been registered against unknown accused in Taimuria Police Station under the section of anti-terrorism and explosives act. According to the FIR, the explosives weighing 2.5 kilogram were attached to a motorbike.

MQM chief Altaf Hussain while slamming the attack on the party's election office at the People's Chowrangi, directed the Coordination Committee to close all the election offices of the party, for the time being, in view of threats of further attacks.

He questioned how peaceful elections could be held amid continuous terrorist attacks.Drawing the attention of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim towards the continuous killing of MQM workers.

Altaf said in a statement that it was the duty of the Election Commission and the caretaker government to maintain peace and order. He regretted that over 25 MQM members and office-bearers, including an election candidate, had fallen victim to the unending wave of terrorism.

Karachi doesn't 'observe mourning day', the city has been brought to a standstill by MQM through the use of force and the threat of violence.

How long are the people of KHI going to suffer this? Celebrating YOUME-E-SOG is not the solution to terrorism rather it affects our economy. People of KHI must realize that the so-called “democratic” political parties are the real cause of terrorism. People shouldn’t cast their votes to those political parties who have militant wings.

Everything is closed today in KHI just because a political party is celebrating YOUM-E-SOG. Today many children have been denied education and people can’t commute because they are stuck in their homes. Sick can’t travel to hospital because there are no buses on roads (not everyone can hire a taxi).
