Islamabad: Dr. Naim Rashid, an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Lahore Campus, in the only Pakistani to have won this year’s International Green Talent Award (2015), conferred by the Ministry of Education and Research, Germany.
This award is granted to young scientists (less than 32 years in age) who work on developing “Green and Sustainable Technology.” All 27 winners from across the globe are offered a two-week trip to get exposed to contemporary research in Germany. In 2016, a three-month research stay in Germany will also be offered to the awardees, for establishing research collaborations and career development.
CIIT Rector Dr. S M Junaid Zaidi, congratulated Dr. Naim on winning the award and for bringing laurels to the country and encouraged him to “keep up the good work.”
Dr. Naim Rashid’s research focuses on bio-energy production from waste materials and microalgae. He is also aiming to develop technology, such as microbial fuel cell, which can use microalgae for bio-fuels production, wastewater treatment, and electricity generation simultaneously.
