The fault in our power plant
Much has been said about dealing with prolonged loadshedding in Karachi. But nothing constructive has been done to tackle the issue. During the last couple of months, Karachi has witnessed long hours of loadshedding, with power supply being disrupted throughout the day. If media reports are to be believed, this problem has been caused by a fault at the Bin Qasim power plant. The spare part that will help repair the faulty unit has been imported and will be installed soon. It seems that the KE authorities are unaware of the word ‘backup’.
Every part in a machine has its useful life. The management must plans accordingly so that uninterrupted supply can be ensured. Here, no planning is done. It was initially announced that the reason for acute loadshedding was the shortage of gas. This matter was resolved after the higher authorities interfered. Now, another reason is being given to justify prolong power outages. The lack of planning is the chief factor for prolonged loadshedding. This issue must be addressed soon.
