Man wanted in several murder cases killed in shootout
Karachi
An alleged notorious criminal involved in murders of several people, including policemen, was killed in an encounter with Quaidabad police late on Tuesday night.
The shootout occurred in the Star Ground area when policemen on a patrol, led by Station House Officer Mohammad Ali Marwat of Quaidabad Police Station, arrived there after being tipped off that members of a criminal gang had gathered there. After the cops came under fire from the suspects, they retaliated against the attack and arrested Zaheer alias Zaheera in an injured condition. His associates fled, however.
The injured criminal was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where he was pronounced dead.
The police also claimed seizing a 9mm pistol and a stolen motorcycle, which belonged to Shah Latif Police Station. Zaheer was wanted in more than 40 murder cases, including the murder of five policemen in District Malir, as well as in several cases of heinous crimes. The suspect was said to be associated with criminal gangs and banned outfits.
