PESHAWAR: Security around the Bacha Khan International Airport and nearby areas has been increased as the Haj operation to bring the pilgrims back from Saudi Arabia is to continue till October 28.
Capital City Police Officer Mubarak Zeb said that he along with other officers visited the area and inspected the checkposts in and outside the airbase that also houses the airport.
He added that the police had improved security of the routes leading to the airport while search and strike operations are also being carried out in the area. The checkposts of the army have also increased security since the Hajj flights have started.
A large number of relatives wait for several hours on Bara Road and Swati Gate to receive their loved ones coming back after performing Haj.
