PESHAWAR: The Jamaat-e-Islami continued to drift away from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf despite being coalition partners in the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when it
decided to field its own candidates for the offices of chairmen of district and tehsil councils in the provincial capital on Friday.
The JI announced its candidates for the chairmen of all high tiers of the local government in Peshawar even though it has no chance to win any of the contests. The PTI has the strength to win the election for the chairmen of the district and tehsil councils in Peshawar provided the party leadership is able to heal the rift in the party and prevail upon the unhappy councilors-elect.
