MINGORA: The parents and students of the ‘maktab’ schools staged protests against the merger of their schools with high schools in the Swat district on Tuesday.
Led by Dr Jawad Iqbal, the parents and students of the ‘maktab’ schools took out protest processions.
They chanted slogans against the government’s decision for merging 93 maktab schools with high schools in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said that after merging the maktab schools, the minor students were forced to go to schools in far-flung areas. They said that the merged schools were already overcrowded and by joining such schools.
The speakers maintained that most of the students would hardly adjust themselves psychologically in such schools. They said that the government should withdraw the decision of merging the maktab schools otherwise they would stage protest near the provincial assembly in Peshawar.
