PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) elected four new office-bearers on Tuesday.
Sardar Hussain Babak was elected as provincial general secretary unopposed and Haroon Bilour was named as provincial information secretary at the provincial council of the party in Mardan.
ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan chaired the meeting. Provincial president of the party and former chief minister Ameer Haider Hoti and almost all the council members attended the meeting.
Pervez Khan was elected as provincial joint secretary for Peshawar zone and Nisar Khan as joint secretary for Malakand zone.
Talking to media after the meeting, Asfandyar Wali Khan said that the history of ANP was full of sacrifices. He said that the operation in Karachi was going well and the security forces themselves were verifying the fact that no one in ANP supported violence in the city.
He said that the country was passing through a sensitive time and it was facing difficulties both at the internal and external fronts. He said that this sensitive situation needed unity and solidarity.
About Kalabagh dam, the ANP leader said that they opposed the project in the past and would do so in the present and future. He said that they prevented change in the route of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. He also expressed serious concern over the statement of Altaf Hussain, saying that seeking other countries support for any leader was tantamount to enmity with the country. He said that the war against terror would have to be made successful at every level to maintain peace in the country.
