MANSEHRA: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nominated former provincial minister as its candidate for the office of district nazim of Mansehra.
The decision came at a meeting at New Circuit House. Federal Minister for Haj and Religious Affairs Sardar Mohammad Yousuf and other local PML-N leaders attended it.
The councillor-elect of PML-N and its ally Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl were also in attendance.The PML-N that had earlier developed differences over the name of its district chairman finally nominated former provincial minister Syed Akhtar Shah for the office of the district nazim.
The meeting tasked him to contact independent councillors to seek their support.
Syed Akhtar Shah, who was elected district councillor from his native union council Kaghan, is the son of former senator Syed Muzammil Shah. His younger brother Syed Ahmad Hussain Shah was minister for industries in the Awami National Party-led previous provincial government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Syed Ahmad Shah, who is an active leader of Pakistan People’s Party, played an active role in the success of his elder brother.
Syed Ahmad Shah, who has also remained district nazim, was once again holding meetings with councillors elect and seeking votes for his brother.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has nominated Shehryar Khan Swati, the nephew of Senator Azam Khan Swati, as its contender for the district nazim slot.
