CHARSADDA: Unidentified motorcyclists shot dead an activist of the Awami National Party (ANP) at the party office in Utmanzai union council, police said. They said that the 88-year-old ANP activist Dost Muhammad Khan, who had also remained a member of the Khudai Khidmatgar movement, was shot dead inside the ANP office in Utmanzai when armed men opened fire at him. The sources said that Dost Muhammad Khan might have been target killed for being a member of the shia community.

‘No rift in Malakand PPP’

DARGAI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) local leader and member of the tehsil council Kharkai Pir Qadeem Khan on Thursday said his party will form coalition government in Malakand along with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Awami National Party (ANP) and Jamaat-e-Islami. Speaking at a press conference, he said that PPP was a political force and those who hatched conspiracies against it would never succeed in their designs. He said that he had always trusted the party leadership and there was no rift in the party over the nomination of the tehsil chairmanship. He thanked Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Syed Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha and the party leadership for awarding him ticket for local government election.

196 more NWA families return home

BANNU: Around 196 internally displaced families were sent homes in North Waziristan on the second day of the return process on Thursday, political administration said.The political administration official said that 196 families comprising 211 male, 297 female and 322 children had been sent home in North Waziristan in a convoy escorted security forces.The administration said that Rs10,000 transportation allowance and Rs25,000 support allowance per family had been provided to the returning families.

Two killed in Lakki clash

LAKKI MARWAT: Two persons, including a proclaimed offender, were killed in a clash between two groups in Azerkhel village in the jurisdiction of Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan Police Station of Darra Pezu town on Thursday. The police said that both groups exchanged firing over a minor dispute in which Muhammad Zahid from one side and alleged proclaimed offender Ameer Nawaz from the other side were killed. They said Ameer Nawaz was wanted to the police in the cases of murder and attempted murder.

NOWSHERA: A poet and senior English teacher Zahid Ahmad died of a cardiac arrest here on Thursday.He was the son of Master Masal Khan (late) and brother of Khadim Jan and Ali Ahmad Jan.The deceased funeral was well-attended. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard. Qul for the deceased would be offered tomorrow at his residence in Misri Banda.

Army gives cheques to firing victim families

BANNU: The Pakistan Army provided compensation cheques to the victims of the firing incident at the internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp at Bakkahel Frontier Region Bannu.Brig Mukhtiar handed over cheques for Rs500,000 each to the families of dead and Rs100,000 to injured at the camp.Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Political Agent Zaheerud Din Babar said that government would also provide compensation to the affected families.

MARDAN: The local police have registered a case against eight persons for allegedly thrashing, threatening and stopping Cantonment Board staff from performing duty in the limits of Hoti Police Station. Zulfiqar Ali, an employee of the Cantonment Board Mardan, lodged the report. He said he was subjected to beating and stopped from performing duty when he was busy in anti-encroachment drive in bazaar at the Kasi Chowk.

NOWSHERA: Gunmen Thursday snatched the official vehicle of the Assistant commissioner Peshawar, cash and other valuables from his driver in Pabbi area, police said.They said that five gunmen had blocked the Pabbi-Cherat Road by placing a trunk of a tree on it. They said that the gunmen took hostage the driver of Assistant Commissioner Peshawar Mumtaz Ahmad at gunpoint and stanched the official car (A-5132), cash and a mobile phone from him.The police lodged the case and started investigation.

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company’s Meter Testing Laboratory has shown performance in checking domestic, commercial and industrial electricity meters. A press release said meters found tampered for theft of electricity is fined according to the consumer’s actual load and the percentage of tampering. In May 2015, 10203 single & three-phase meters of Peshawar, Khyber, Mardan, Bannu, Abbottabad and Swat Circles were checked, out of which 1453 were found tampered for theft.

CM asked to complete road construction

MARDAN: The residents of Gujrat village in the Mardan district have asked Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and the Communication and Works (C&W) Department to take note of an incomplete road in the village.Talking to reporters, the residents led by elders said the Chargali-Bakhshali Road had been dug several months ago. However, the unknown contractor left the work incomplete instead of carpeting it.They said a small part of the road near the Darul Uloom in Gujrat village, which is hardly 300 to 400 metres long, is creating a lot of trouble for commuters and vehicular traffic and nearby homes as the locality is enveloped in thick dust all over the day.

Tribe inks peace accord with admin

LANDIKOTAL: The elders of the Afridi tribe signed an agreement with the political administration aimed to ban all kinds of violence during the Ramzan and on Eid. The agreement was signed on Thursday in Landikotal administration office where a large number of local elders and members of civil society were present.The agreement made all the Afridi tribesmen bound that they would not use weapon against each other during the Ramzan. It was also mentioned in the agreement that those whoever violated the agreement would be fined of Rs1 million.
