KARAK: The teachers on Tuesday staged a protest rally outside the office of deputy commissioner here to protest the alleged harassment of their colleagues during the election duty on May 30.
Led by All Primary Teachers Association (APTA) district president Javed Iqbal Khattak, Tanzeem-i-Asatiza leader Khairullah Hawari and association’s women wing president Balqees Begum, the protesters marched to deputy commissioner office.
The protesters criticised the government for poor arrangements for the local government elections and termed it a worst election in the history of the country. They claimed that the supporters of the candidates harassed the election staff.
The election staff was taken hostage in some places but the administration failed to provide security to them,” one of the protesters said, adding that only two cops had been deputed at each polling station who were also feeling insecure. They complained that even drinking water was not provided to the election staff in the polling stations.
