PESHAWAR: Parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal areas received rain and snowfall, dipping the mercury further in several areas.
The torrential rains continued to lash the provincial metropolis like other parts of the province, creating problems for the dwellers of slums. The Meteorological Department recorded 18mm rain and more rains have been predicted during the week.
In the city, the poor drainage system added to the problems of the masses as most of the roads were turned into pools, making it difficult for the vehicular traffic and pedestrians to move. Most of the drains in different localities of the city were choked and the water continued to flow on the roads.
Residents of the city expressed concern about the poor drainage system. They said that due to lack of cleanliness of Shahi Katta, the main drainage system of the city was closed. Mud-houses in the villages like Badaber, Pajjagi, Matani, Hazarkhwani, Chamkani, Warsak Road, Choli Bala and Choli Payan suffered serious problems due to rain.
BISHAM: Mercury dipped in Shangla district after heavy snowfall on Sunday as mountain peaks were covered with snow.The temperature lowered in the district after the heavy snowfall in many areas of the Malakand division.
In Shangla district, traffic was interrupted on the Puran-Shangla Road when the road was blocked by the snow at Yakh Tangi.Mountaintops in Pir Khana, Olandar, Ajmir, Spin Ghar, Kafir Banda and Yakh Tangi were covered with snow while tourists from other parts of the country have started arriving in the district.
However, prices of firewood soared with the fresh spell of snowfall on the one hand while an increase was also noted in the chest related diseases among the residents of the area on the other.
KHAR: The fresh spell of rain that started on Sunday increased problems of the tribespeople, who have been facing severe problems due to disconnection of electricity for the last many days. The tribespeople were faced with difficulties as the renewed spell of rain damaged the telecommunication system in Bajaur Agency.Most of the commercial centres in Bajaur Agency remained closed due to heavy rain and snowfall.
