A group of students enrolled in Islamabad’s government colleges are facing punishment for participating in the demonstration of teachers against denial of salary and job regularisation.
According to an insider, the action, which may be either a warning or rustication from college, will be taken by the Federal Directorate of Education, which regulates government-run educational institutions in Islamabad both urban and rural.
The development comes as the Capital Administration and Development Division has sought explanation from the FDE on the matter.
On Friday, a couple of students went to D Chowk near Parliament House to join their teachers in the protest continuing for two weeks against non-payment of salary and regularisation of services.
The protesting teachers insisted they didn’t ask students to join them and that they came over on their own free will. A relevant CADD official said the FDE director general had been asked to file explanation on why schoolchildren had boycotted classes and joined a protest.
He said protesting students would be dealt with strictly for violating rules. The official said the protesting teachers and other daily wagers of the FDE would get salary shortly, while their case for permanent job would be examined in line with the rules.
