Power supply to CDA headquarters disconnected

The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) on Monday disconnected electric supply to the headquarters of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in reaction to demolition of wall of Iesco rest house during an anti-encroachment operation, the other day.
The CDA sources said that the authority had reconciled the payment dispute of dues about three years back with the Iesco and then also paid Rs400 million to the company. “Since then we are paying regular payments of bills to the Iesco but still the electricity connection was suspended on Monday,” the CDA sources told 'The News.
Following suspension of electricity to the CDA headquarters on Monday, the two Government organisations are now pitted against each other.
The CDA sources said the electricity has been suspended in reaction to an operation which was launched to demolish encroached wall of Iesco rest house located in front of Convention Centre.
On the other hand, the Iesco Public Relations department denied the charges saying the disconnection of electricity connection of CDA headquarters was part of operation against defaulters. “There is no other reason behind disconnection of electricity connection,’ the public relations department said.
The CDA sources said now the authority would start operation against illegal housing schemes created by the Iesco inside the Islamabad city without permission of the civic body.
An official said that they would also seal the buildings where the Iesco had issued illegal connection including the building under non-conforming use. “The Iesco and other departments are also our defaulters and we will start the operation right away most probably from tomorrow,’ the official said.
The official said they receive electricity bills of 100% streetlight poles from the Iesco whereas under the energy saving programme, only 50% streetlights are operated.
