The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered criminal case against former Principal Information Officer (PIO) and Pamra ex-Chairman Chaudhry Rashid Ahmed, 12 other officers of Press Information Department (PID) and a private company on the allegation of more than a million rupee embezzlement, FIA sources said.
An inquiry was initiated against Ch Rashid in April 2012 on a complaint following an inquiry report, the sources maintained.
The case was registered against the officials for bogus payment of Rs1.185 million to Manhattan Pakistan in 2010 in the name of publishing ads of POF through a fake letter. FIA Crime Circle Islamabad has registered case (FIR No. 37/15) under sections 420, 468, 471, 409,109 PPC, 5(2)47 PCA, FIA ACC, Rawalpindi after a thorough investigation, the FIA said, adding that the accused were found involved in getting over a million rupees from the exchequer.
Inam Ghani, Director FIA Islamabad, when contacted by this correspondent for his comments, confirmed the report, saying that the case was registered against former PIO Chaudhry Rashid Ahmad, Ijaz Ahmad DDG, Ashraf Hussain (Director), Raja Mohammad Farooq (Director Co.), Ali Nawaz Malik (Deputy Director), Barshah Rehman (Accounts Officer), Mohammad Rafique Khattak (DDO), Mohammad Rafique (Superintendent), Faisal Sultan (LDC) and Mohammad Ayyaz (UDC) and officials of M/S Manhattan Pakistan (Pvt), Mrs Nusrat and Nasir for embezzlement of Rs118,565,0 on fake/bogus and tempered POF letter paid advertisement bill. Further investigation is underway, the director said.
