The Department of Environment Sciences of the International Islamic University (IIU) celebrated World Water Day by organising an awareness walk and a seminar.
Besides World Youth Parliament for Water President Bart Devis from Belgium, International Water Secretariat member Raza Ali, Pakistan Youth Parliament for Water founding member Wasif Bashir, IIU Department of Environment Sciences Chairman Dr. Muhammad Irfan, faculty members and students attended the event.
The guests delivered comprehensive presentations on importance of water, current water challenges, fear of water scarcity and issues of drinking water around the globe.
In his presentation, Bart Devis highlighted issues and challenges regarding water availability, its quality and purification. He urged youths to come forward and contribute their potential beyond all political, geographical and cultural boundaries for saving water for next generations.
Bart said youths should pressure authorities to make a national water policy for saving water and meeting the current challenges.
Dr Irfan said water was imperative of economy as Pakistan was an agrarian country. He said Pakistan had third largest population of youths which also has a potential to lead the nation. He further termed youth a source of development and custodian of water resources.
Dr. Irfan also stressed on students that they should care efficient use of water must fulfil their responsibilities in this regard.
Later, Bart Devis met IIU Vice President Academics Dr. Muhammad Bashir Khan and said there was a dire need to raise the awareness about water issues, challenges and problems.
