Water level recedes in Leh
Operational wings still on high alert as more rain expected

Rawalpindi: Although water in Nullah Leh, which reached its danger level on Monday evening, has receded but all operational wings of the local administration will remain on high alert as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast more rains during next 24 hours.
The district government had clamped emergency and alerted all concerned departments to meet with any eventuality following rainfall on Tuesday.
According to the PMD, on Monday night, the city received around 87 mm of rainfall while its surrounding parts received over 114 mm.
Sirens had been blown to alert the people living in low-lying areas after the water level has surged to 12 feet near New Katarian and 15 feet under Gawalmandi Bridge on Monday night.
Talking to APP, Managing Director Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Raja Shaukat Mehmmnood said that rainwater submerged in low-lying areas near Katarian, Javed Colony, Arya Mohallah, Gawalmandi, Millat Colony, Mohallah Workshopi, Gawala Road, Ratta Amral, Dhoke Ratta, Phagwari and Nayya Mohallah.
He said the rainwater entered houses in low-lying areas and in the emergency department of Holy Family Hospital where district administration along all operational wings remained actively engaged to evacuate the residents and shifting them to safer places.
Commissioner Zahid Saeed and District Coordination Officer Sajid Zafar visited different sections of the Nullah Leh and monitored the water situation.
They also directed Rawal Town Administrator Chauhdhry Liaquat Ali, Rescue 1122 and MD (WASA) Raja Shaukat to ensure close coordination with all departments concerned for effective rescue and relief operation.
